By Kate CohenJuly 30, 2025
August is Family Fun Month, and there’s no better way to celebrate than spending quality time with the ones you love best.

This year, challenge yourself to try a variety of new activities and adventures with The Ultimate Family Fun Month Bucket List, put together by your friends at Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center (RAFC).
Check out some of the fun activities that await your family below.
Table of Contents
Go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt

Exploring the great outdoors is always a fun way to enjoy time together.
Put together a scavenger hunt and see what you can find.
Your list may be as detailed as finding specific species of native birds or insects, or, if you have younger kids, may simply be about identifying different colors as you explore.
Search websites like Pinterest for free printable checklists and guides to take your search to the next level.
Visit a Local Farmers Market

Farmers markets are wonderful ways to learn about where our food comes from while meeting and supporting local farmers, makers, and producers.
Give everyone the challenge of talking to at least one new vendor or picking out a new food or product to try.
If you’re a family that loves to cook together, look for a fresh ingredient to inspire a homemade dinner later that evening.
Enjoy a Beach Day

While many kids return to school in August, the weather is often still summery and warm.
Pick a day to pack the car and spend time at the nearest beach. Prepare a picnic with your favorite snacks, bring along a few activities, and enjoy your time splashing and playing together.
Don’t forget sunscreen!
Create a Family Time Capsule

Your family’s unique memories deserve to be treasured.
Create a family time capsule with pictures, trinkets, notes, and other memorabilia that are currently important to your family unit.
Then, determine when you’d like to open your time capsule – six months? A year? Five years?
Write a letter to your future selves describing the objects, and maybe even predicting where you’ll be when the time capsule is opened at last.
Hide it somewhere safe and resist the temptation to open it before its designated open date.
Host Themed Movie Nights

Make family movie nights even more exciting with themed snacks, decorations, and activities.
For example:
- Planning on watching Disney’s Frozen? Serve snow cones, hang icicle string lights, and put together a hot chocolate bar with toppings like blue sprinkles.
- Choose a family-friendly sports movie like Little Giants and have everyone dress in their favorite team jerseys, make stadium food like hot dogs and nachos, and prepare a mini sports challenge following the film.
- Start an action-packed superhero themed movie night: make DIY paper masks and capes out of pillowcases, create your unique superhero name, snack on “hero” sandwiches, and cozy up to watch a movie like The Incredibles.
Create a Random Acts of Kindness Jar

A little act of kindness goes a long way.
This Family Fun Month, create a list together of random acts of kindness like picking up litter, donating clothes and toys, or sending someone a letter.
Write your ideas down on strips of paper and put them into a jar.
At least once a week, have someone pick a piece of paper from the jar and challenge everyone in the family to perform that act of kindness for someone new.
Start a Family Book Club

Begin by choosing a book that you’ll read together. If your kids are older, pick a book everyone can read on their own. If you have little ones, choose something you can read aloud together.
Make time throughout the week to unplug from your screens and read. After each chapter, talk about the characters and what’s happening in the story.
Check online to see if the book you’ve chosen has a book club guide to encourage conversation.
Once you’ve read the entire book, plan an evening with a special book-related menu and activity or craft.
Family Board Game Tournament

What’s family without a little friendly competition?
Challenge one another to a family board game tournament with all your favorite games. Or, try a new game that no one has played before.
Not a big board game group? Check out minute to win it activities and party games that everyone can try.
Throw a Backyard BBQ or Picnic for Friends

Treat your friends, family, and neighbors to a welcoming backyard barbecue.
As a family, plan your menu and assign everyone tasks to help get ready for hosting guests.
Create invitations, make a playlist, find a few yard games, and think about how you can decorate your space.
It’s always fun to host a party, and even better when it’s all about spending time with the people you love most.
Make a Family Fun Month Banner

Keep track of all your Family Fun Month activities with a big banner.
Every time you do something from your bucket list or make a new memory, write or draw it on the banner.
By the end of the month, you’ll have a beautiful display of all the quality time you’ve spent together in the past month.
Spend Time as a Family at Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center
Staying active is a great way to spend time together as a family.
At Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center (RAFC), there are several ways you can take advantage of our beautiful facilities while enjoying time together with your loved ones.
Volunteer as a Family

We are always looking for help when it comes to events, swim meets, and other gatherings at RAFC.
As a nonprofit organization, we rely on the generosity of others to help us provide important health and wellness resources to members of our community.
Everyone can volunteer their time to make a difference and ensure our events run smoothly for teams, spectators, and competitors.

Take a Swim Lesson Together

The key to spending family time safely at the beach or by the pool is rooted in proper swim safety.
At RAFC, we offer a variety of swim lessons to help keep kids safe, including lessons for parents and children to do together.
Check out our parent/child classes for swimmers ages 6 months to 3 years old and their grown-ups.
Come to an Event

RAFC hosts a variety of athletic and aquatic events throughout the year that are open to the public.
For example, our Cardboard Boat Race held in July supports drowning prevention and adaptive swim lesson programs for swimmers of all levels.
In previous years, we’ve also hosted events including the U.S. Paralympics Swimming National Championships and various Special Olympics meets and competitions.
Make the Most of Family Fun Month

There’s nothing more important than family.
Prioritize the health and well-being of your family this month with engagement, togetherness, and purposeful play.
If you’re in the Orlando area, bring your family to RAFC and enjoy spending time at our community aquatic hub.
We look forward to making a splash with you!
