Philanthropist Harris Rosen Recognized by the Special Olympics Florida Hall of Fame

ORLANDO, FL (February 2, 2026) — Special Olympics Florida has inducted the late Harris Rosen, founder of Rosen Hotels & Resorts, into the Special Olympics Florida Hall of Fame — one of the organization’s highest and most prestigious honors. The posthumous recognition celebrates Rosen’s outstanding contributions to Special Olympics and his long-standing commitment to swimming education through the Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center (RAFC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization.
Rosen, an avid swimmer himself, championed Special Olympics at every level. Dr. Lucky Meisenheimer, a longtime swimming coach affiliated with both the RAFC and Special Olympics Florida, nominated Rosen for his unwavering support and the belief that every child should know how to swim, especially in a state surrounded by water.
Mike Miller, executive director of the RAFC, accepted the award on behalf of the Rosen family at the Hall of Fame event on January 29, 2026. “Mr. Rosen believed deeply in creating spaces where athletes of all abilities could thrive – physically, emotionally and socially. Every athlete deserved dignity, respect and the opportunity to grow and the Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center did just that,” said Miller.
The RAFC remains committed to advancing water safety and improving community health through inclusive programs that serve athletes and families of all abilities and financial backgrounds. The center has hosted numerous local and statewide Special Olympics events at no cost to the organization and proudly served as a venue for the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.
The Special Olympics Florida Hall of Fame honors athletes, volunteers, organizations and leaders who have made major, long‑term contributions to the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through Special Olympics. Each year, the organization recognizes individuals who have demonstrated inclusion and continued support for Special Olympics Florida, thereby upholding the honor of the organization and creating a better world by fostering the acceptance of all people.
Special Olympics Florida expressed deep appreciation for Rosen’s impact, noting that his vision and generosity have created lasting opportunities and opened doors – literally and figuratively – for countless athletes.
